Gosport is not big enough for this size building which will cause major issues with transport and the local housing estate, across the road. A carpark, which has always been used by local residents will no longer be available. Residents will not feel safe in their own homes. Increasing bed count by building a 3rd floor in the IRC Gosport will directly impact the local infrastructure. Currently the surrounding roads, Haslar road, fort road and clay hall road are in very bad shape with very big uneven bumps presenting direct risk of vehicle damage, that will only get worse with the increased traffic one the IRC opens, let alone with more than previously agreed. The fact something has been taken out of the locals hands is disgusting. We have no issue it being opened up again and used correctly. I am very concerned about the proposed works that are actually going ahead to expand and build a unit to house 600 beds, a medical centre, restaurants, and sports facilities. The plans include four three-storey accommodation blocks reaching up to 12 metres. They would be substantially taller than the historic barracks and many nearby homes, with two blocks close to the Haslar Barracks Conservation Area. My biggest concern is for the residents that are local to the detention centre. They have already been subjected to so much noise and disruption made just from workmen going onto the site. Worried about security, Bail release as Gosport is already over crowded. Changing demographics of the area when tripling the size of the occupancy. This proposal does not consider the huge impact on residents and the environment. At a public meeting we were assured that any buildings created would NOT exceed two storeys in height. This pledge seems to have been disregarded. My concern is regarding the potential impact that this could have on local residents and the surrounding area if any changes occur in the future and people held within the centre are allowed to come and go. This includes situations where people may be released on bail. I would like to endorse all that Dame Caroline Dinenage said in her correspondence to you and add some of my own comments. I am concerned about these plans, the height proposed of the buildings and how it will impact my view which right now I can see the Isle of Wight, and afterwards I will not. This seems very unfair. Where is the shared humanity? The government should be spending time and money on finding better solutions; like safer secure routes in to the UK, proper support for those seeking asylum, building and maintaining infrastructure, tackling poverty, taxing the wealthy, reparations, global peace. Whacking a large three-storey prison in a small residential area when you'd told the residents the development would be a lot smaller was never going to be a good look, was it. I don't mind Phase 1. The roads are congested already so to move 600 people to the area would only exacerbate the issue. We are also a coastline community and placing such a tall and large building on that site spoils the view for a coastal community. Wrong size, wrong position.

The plans for the new site are completely impractical for the area it is situated. The transport links cannot sensibly support it. It’s in an already well established residential area and next to a conservation site. Local residents are already seeing the impact and house prices are being driven down or owners unable to sell. There has been no consultation for the new plans and clearly no practical evaluation on how this centre can operate in the location.

I am vehemently opposed to this application. It has been created by faceless bureaucrats who have no idea what the area of Gosport is like. It is an extremely populated island peninsula with limited access and egress. Traffic is an overwhelming problem already. It’s concerning the amount of people expected to be accommodated at this facility. There has been no explanation on what would happen if the countries they are being returned too refuses for them. I accept the necessity of the facility. However I consider that, given the residential area, it is proportionate to ensure that there is sufficient parking available on site for all staff and visitors to both enable efficient operation of the site but also ongoing good community relationships.
