I object to this application because it represents a major intensification of the existing use of the site. Expanding the centre to 600 beds, with four new three-storey accommodation blocks, is excessive for a site adjacent to a residential area. I previously lived nearby, and close family members now live directly opposite the site. I am concerned that the scale of the development will increase traffic, noise, lighting and operational activity, reducing the amenity of nearby residents and placing additional pressure on local infrastructure. The four proposed three-storey accommodation blocks would have a significant visual impact and represent an overdevelopment of the site. They are out of character with the predominantly lower-rise surrounding area and would be visually intrusive within the local streetscape. For these reasons, I believe the proposed development is inappropriate for this location and planning permission should be refused.
