I am writing with reference to the Crown Development Application - ref CROWN/2026/0000005 phase 2 relating to the totally unnaceptable expansion of the Haslar Immigration Removal Centre. This has been dealt with in a extremely unsuitable & underhand manner with no reasons given as to why this has not been dealt with in the usual process including public meetings. It appears that there has been very little or no attention given to the location which is primarily residential with limited parking & this will obviously result in more traffic & noise for the existing residents. The surrounding roads are already having to cope with the ongoing development on the former site of Haslar Hospital but atleast this development has involved significant investment to improve the area whereas the IRC will have the completely opposite effect. The scale of the latest plans of 600 beds is totally unnaceptable to many Gosport residents including myself & my concerns are growing as to how we can be sure that this centre will be totally secure. We cannot be sure they will not be allowed out of the premises into the locality & have huge concerns that none of these men housed here will ever be returned to their country of origin. Anxiety over these matters will continue to grow all the time decisions are being made behind closed doors by people who will not be affected in any way by this unit - disgusting behaviour by those concerned!
