The whole of the Haslar peninsula is planned for development, Haslar hospital, housing on ex MOD land, the future development of Fort Blickhouse. The IRC upper level extension, will take away the privacy of all the local residents. Already we are seeing a drop in the value of properties surrounding the IRC, with some residents unable to sell, because of the IRC. I strongly object to the expansion of IRC, as I feel if this is allowed, it opens the doors for future development on that site.

I object to the proposed expansion plans for the Haslar IRC. The new/updated plans are not in keeping with the area which is predominantly a quiet residential area of Gosport. Furthermore the scale of the proposed expansion is too large with 3 storey buildings and large recreational areas. Yes I would like to attend a meeting. Gosport doesn’t have the infrastructure to cope with this proposal. GP, Dental and hospital will be affected to the detriment of the people of this area. We live on a peninsula surrounded by affluent marinas. The local economy is going to the dogs anyway where high street is run down, no decent shops, no transport links I.e. only a bus every 2 hours going 1 way. I have lived near the Haslar Immigration Removal Centre since 2002. When the facility operated prior to its closure, it had very little impact on the local community. I am not opposed in principle to the site being brought back into use for immigration purposes, and I recognise the national need for such facilities. All those boats crossing the English Channel and the men coming to the UK Then being put in to hotels and holding centres is not the answer, they need to be sent back, other countries seem to manage this. Whoever thought an IRC hosting 600 individuals could be located in a small enclosed site at the end of peninsula really did not do their homework. No consideration has been given to the associated issues of parking provision for the multitude of staff required to service the facility or access via local roads. Because of Gosport's location, we effectively have two roads on and off the peninsula which are invariably over-used during most of the working day causing long delays in getting off the peninsula, particularly in the mornings and evenings. From the outset the consultation has been perfunctory if not misleading. Minimal information which gave no accurate insight in what would be the impact of the development on the local environment and its residents. There is no doubt that the quality of life for local people will be adversely affected. This development should not be done under crown development due to the close location of properties. I would like to attend a hearing in the event one is scheduled. My concerns are that a democratic government should act with transparency. The plans set out by the current Labour government for the Haslar IRC are not clear at all. The local residents and council should have a say, unfortunately that has not been the case. This development has been significantly altered from the original plan without any consultation with Local Council or residents. Local infrastructure cannot support an institution of this size without significant impact to residents. The whole process is at odds with Open Government. I would like the home office to confirm that once detainees are within HASLAR they are not allowed access to the local community ? On day trips even further into other communities ? What is the planning for transport movement in and around the site, fort road is particularly difficult to get in and out of especially during rush hours as there is a school and college approx 1 mile away, staff will have to travel in for shift changes and detainees being moved by transport at all different times ... Having attended two past meetings, I find that there is no one in Gosport who have been consulted on this disgusting matter. We have homeless people plus pensioners who would love accommodation and medical treatment. What a complete disgrace this to this once wonderful country.

I am fully against the expansion of the current facility that will allow an increased immigrant population living near me and my family. I want full assurances that once detained, these individuals, who will most likely be young males of unknown foreign origin that do not hold the same values as myself and my family, are detained within the facility and are not permitted to leave the site.

No to attendance. I as a resident of Gosport feel that no thought has been taken into account of the impact this will have on the borough as a whole, also residents have had no real guidance of the plans. Gosport has had no say.

If I have to explain the concerns that Gosport residents have over the haslar detention centre it shows how out of touch the government are. All I will say is, let’s put the scheme in the hands of local people and vote on whether the expansion should go ahead. Our concerns are clearly about the worry of unvetted illegal people being in our communities. In addition the infrastructure of Gosport does not lend its self to such a large facility, traffic is already a major issue for Gosport residents... Read more

The size of the centre is being extended too large and is already too close to private housing the road around this centre will be unable to cope with the traffic has this been taken into consideration with the approval of the application

Once again the good ideas club has not thought about this, however no doubt it will go ahead and nothing will change Gosport cannot support this, the infrastructure is not robust enough. When the problems arise more promises and lies will ensue and the council tax will go up along with the traffic queues, pot holes and crime rate the sad lack of Police coverage (still weeds growing around the long closed Police station )whilst their hands are tied up with red tape, God forbid for they arrest... Gosport is beautiful town and I like to think we rbooen heart to everyone but this is to much please please this can not happen take care of us befor others we r struggling enough thisbreally isn't a great desion for gosport it will be a massive mistake
