We live on a peninsula surrounded by affluent marinas. The local economy is going to the dogs anyway where high street is run down, no decent shops, no transport links I.e. only a bus every 2 hours going 1 way. The area has a number of elderly who are already worrying about their quality of life. Gosport was once a naval town. Now we have blockhouse empty. Developing the old Haslar Hospital where new residents will be basically overlooking the immigration centre, people are not going to buy a property which could help the local economy. People in the local area are frightened and selling their houses but people don’t want to purchase them at the price that they are worth so they are having to reduce them significantly. The houses in this area have always been sought after but now they are not. Families that have lived here for generations are in fear of their homes. Mostly not the immigrants themselves but the people it will bring to the area visiting. The roads are not that great but with more traffic, more pedestrians it would be chaos. They are also building new properties on Haslar Road who will want to purchase them looking onto the immigration centre. Visiting the Sea wall will become non existent as people will be too afraid. I know elderly people in retirement homes for ex service personnel are worried but they have nowhere else to go. They are developing Gilkicker Fort into luxury apartments but again who wants to live here knowing it could contain up to 600 men. The money that is being spent could have been spent helping the local economy not making it worse.
