I object to Phase 2 of the expansion of Haslar Immigration Removal Centre because of the following points: Originally we were told that there was going to be 2 story buildings, now it is 3 story. The amount of increased traffic on Fort Road and indeed into and out of Gosport as we are on a peninsular and it is bad enough already. The noise and pollution levels that will impact on us. The security lighting affecting our privacy. Together with the other proposed new houses being built in the Haslar area, the roads can’t withstand the additional traffic. If the detainees are to be deported on a rolling basis then surely there is no need for phase 2. Phase 2 plans have not taken into consideration the local residents in Fort Road and also the residents of Gosport at all. This expansion of the Haslar IRC has also devalued our property considerably and in fact it would be difficult to even sell our property if phase 2 goes ahead. I am sure there are other locations, not near private houses, that would be suitable to hold these detainees until deportation. We, the residents of Fort Road, have already had to endure not being able to get in and out of our driveways, a lot of noise pollution at unsociable hours in the morning, excess litter, extreme dirt and dust over our cars and property. This has had a huge detrimental impact on our wellbeing, both physically and mentally. If phase 2 goes ahead, this will impact on us for another few years. To my knowledge there is not another IRC situated in a residential area with peoples homes being located right on the perimeter. This expansion should, therefore, not be allowed. I would like to attend a hearing should one be scheduled.
