I strongly object to the proposed expansion of the Immigration Removal Centre beyond the scope of the original plans. Gosport is situated on a peninsula with limited transport infrastructure and a road network that already experiences significant congestion. It is not uncommon for journeys between Gosport and Portsmouth to take well over an hour during peak periods. The proposal is expected to generate more than 700 additional vehicle movements per day, placing further strain on roads that are already operating under considerable pressure. This increase is likely to lead to longer delays, increased air pollution, and accelerated deterioration of local roads, all of which will have a negative impact on residents and the wider community. The proposal would also have a significant effect on the amenity of neighbouring residents. Those living near the existing facility accepted its presence when purchasing or occupying their homes, based on the development as originally approved. However, the addition of an extra storey represents a substantial departure from the original scheme and would materially alter the character and visual impact of the site. Residents would face increased overlooking and loss of privacy, together with a detrimental effect on their ability to enjoy their homes peacefully. There are also legitimate concerns regarding the impact on local property values. Furthermore, the extensive redaction of documents associated with this proposal has limited the ability of local residents and elected representatives to properly scrutinise the plans and engage in the decision-making process. This lack of transparency undermines public confidence and restricts meaningful democratic participation in a development that will have a significant impact on the local area. As a resident of Gosport, I request that comprehensive and independently verified evidence be provided to demonstrate the full impact of this development on the town's transport network and infrastructure. I also seek a legally binding assurance that no further expansion of the Immigration Removal Centre will take place without full public consultation, transparency and the appropriate planning approvals.
