From the outset the consultation has been perfunctory if not misleading. Minimal information which gave no accurate insight in what would be the impact of the development on the local environment and its residents. There is no doubt that the quality of life for local people will be adversely affected. The plan is for 600 people but if experiences elsewhere are anything to go by, that number could be considerably exceeded. Currently the development plans for Fort Gilkicker, the Haslar hospital site and likely Fort Blockhouse will add significant numbers of people which will have a huge impact on the locality. All these developments will require all the services that are necessary to sustain modern living. This has huge implications for increases in local traffic in an area where already an increase of traffic is causing problems. The area is served by Fort Road which in parts is little more than a country lane, Clayhall Road which already has bottlenecks as a result of on street parking and Haslar Bridge which is one-way traffic. These are issues that do not appear to have been considered when the plans were first drawn up. That was a time when local residents could and should have been consulted. I cannot recall this major issue being mentioned by the authorities at the meetings I attended. I have to assume that this was deliberate obfuscation and\or being economical with the truth. Associated 800 daily vehicle movements together with existing traffic would cause chaos on local roads at peak times. The pressure on local health provision is already considerable, the addition of another 600 people will further exacerbate the problems of access. Immigration bail release causes concern. How are people and under what conditions are they to be released? Are they to be released onto the street and simply left to their own devices? Local residents deserve some reassurance on this matter. It is obvious that much information about this development had not been made clear, the redactions within important documentation leads me to suspect that there are important matters being withheld from the public. I demand that a full public enquiry be held so that the Home Office's real intentions are made clear. I wish to attend any hearing that is planned.
