I object to the plans to build three storey accommodation blocks which would not fit in with buildings and houses in the surrounding area. I believe that the extra traffic and parking has not been considered for the area. Has the pressure on GP’s and hospital services been taken into account? Finally, the three storey buildings were not included in the plans which were originally shown to residents.

I strongly object the proposed Plan for the IRC!. To quadruple the existing site is outrageous! There has been no consultation with residents in the local and surrounding areas and information has been withheld. Logistics have also been overlooked!! This site is at the end of a tight Double Peninsula in the bottom of Gosport where road connectivity is very restricted and means traffic heading to and from Gosport is already often at a standstill. As a resident of Gosport living very close to this proposed facility I am extremely concerned about the impact that this will have. We do not have the road infrastructure in place to cope with the vast number of extra vehicles that will be going to and from this site. It is difficult enough to get a doctor or hospital appointment in this area so another 600 residents will cause further issues. The refurbished Gosport IRC will eventually have 600 beds. A number of key concerns:- 1) How many relatives & friends is predicted will visit the inmates? 2) What provision will be made to transport these visitors or to enable those in private transport to park without disturbing the residents of the area? 3) Transport of inmates to & from Gosport IRC will create a regular daily flow of prison transport vehicles. We are very much limited for space in Gosport, so I oppose a second phase happening on the Hasler emigration centre. Much of our services in the area are already stretched. We need to encourage people to come to our area and spend money, with so many immigrants in the area, this will keep people away. I don’t wish to attend any hearings. I fully support the development of the Haslar Immigration Site to provide accommodation for people seeking asylum. These people have faced huge hardship & brutality to reach this country, with no legal route of entry available to them, they deserve our support to help them integrate into our welcoming community, as is our moral responsibility. The development of Haslar will provide jobs & boost the local economy.

At a public meeting we were assured that any buildings created would NOT exceed two storeys in height. This pledge seems to have been disregarded. The lighting that has already been connected is very bright but, fortunately, currently lowly placed in the road adjacent. Regarding the Haslar Immigration Centre, Gosport, Hants. We strongly object to the proposed planning to make phase 2, which includes making the building 3 storys high and an extra 470 beds, now to 600. My concern is regarding the potential impact that this could have on local residents and the surrounding area if any changes occur in the future and people held within the centre are allowed to come and go. This includes situations where people may be released on bail. This is likely to have security implications for nearby residents, as well as potential issues regarding traffic and noise depending on hours at which arrivals and departures take place.

I wish to object in the strongest terms against this proposed development. The site is less than 10 metres away from a number of private homes on the opposite side of the road. I would like to endorse all that Dame Caroline Dinenage said in her correspondence to you and add some of my own comments. When moving to Gosport over 9 years ago I specifically chose the Hasler area for a number of reasons but primarily the peace and quite of the area, along with the amazing wildlife that used to inhabit the sea wall area. I absolutely oppose this site , I have family members who live in the area, noise pollution disorder from this site and the cost to the surrounding area nobody wants to visit a town with this in there backyard, 600 undocumented men in the area is not good for a small town, as well as not mentioned what is going to be allowed leaving residents of Gosport in the dark , if these men are waiting deportation it means they are ardent criminals, and this facility doesn’t seem secure enough

Where is the shared humanity? The roads are congested already so to move 600 people to the area would only exacerbate the issue. We are also a coastline community and placing such a tall and large building on that site spoils the view for a coastal community. Wrong size, wrong position.

The plans for the new site are completely impractical for the area it is situated. The transport links cannot sensibly support it. It’s in an already well established residential area and next to a conservation site. Local residents are already seeing the impact and house prices are being driven down or owners unable to sell. There has been no consultation for the new plans and clearly no practical evaluation on how this centre can operate in the location.

It’s concerning the amount of people expected to be accommodated at this facility. There has been no explanation on what would happen if the countries they are being returned too refuses for them. I accept the necessity of the facility. However I consider that, given the residential area, it is proportionate to ensure that there is sufficient parking available on site for all staff and visitors to both enable efficient operation of the site but also ongoing good community relationships.
