I want to record my objections to the proposed expansion of Haslar Immigration Removal Centre (application ref: CROWN/2026/0000005). The proposal would see Haslar's capacity expanding more than four-fold – from 130 to 600 beds. Extremely disappointed at the lack of communication around this project. No consideration has been given to how the local community feel about the significant changes to the plans. Security agreements have not been made transparent and how quickly will the illegal immigrants be deported. No reassurances have been communicated.

I wish to object to the IRC Phase 2 development based on the following. Firstly, the internment of circa 600 inmates on such a small site will have profound implications on the lives of those living in the adjacent area. The first point I want to make is that expansion to house 600 migrants in this IRC rests on a case that we don't have enough places already; I can see plenty of evidence to show we need fewer not more IRC places and none that there is an immediate need for more detention places. I am opposed to the opening and proposed expansion. I think in general having a state that cares heavily on the detention of civilians, and not so much on helping others, is bad. What's happening in the US should be a warning of what not to do. Also the centre hasn't even reopened yet and plans are being made to expand it's capacity? Has any real research gone into investigating any of the myriad of saftey concerns? In good conscience none of this should go ahead

The scale of the proposed expansion will have a negative impact on the local area and completely dominate this end of Alverstoke. The infrastructure in terms of roads will not be able to cope with the new level of staff/ visitors etc. there is also nowhere to put sufficient parking and we are already as an area feeling the effects of the trades people who are working on sites they new plans are being bulldozersed in with no concern for local people. My view is the same as that stated by the local authority which I have copied here and primarily about the proposal to build 3 story accommodation blocks. I wholeheartedly object to the expansion of IRC in Dolphin Way. I live close to this facility which has been closed for a number of years. Gosport is a deprived town as is its surrounding areas. This will do nothing to enhance Gosport but degrade it even more. I was informed by a Home Office representative, at the open forum a few months ago, that around 600 men, a large proportion of which are convicted criminals, will be housed here. Yes, I would like to attend a hearing. Increasing the capacity of the removal centre does not take into account the serious negative effect it will have on the properties that are adjacent to that centre, which is located in a residential area. The proposed revised height off the buildings will dwarf neighbouring properties. Residents will be overlooked in their homes and gardens, which will mean a total lack of privacy. This development not only plays with the safety of local residents (say what you want, these centres bring high crime including violent crime and rape), but has been brought about in the most disgustingly fascist way. I do not agree with the plan to expand upon this site. This is a beautiful area that people enjoy walking along the sea wall. It is over development of the site. The other buildings were existing so I don't object to that. I understand the need to accommodate these individuals but what security measures are going to be put in place to reassure the local residents? Deeply disappointed that the Government has failed-to properly engage with local residents over significantly altered plans for the expansion. There needs to be more opportunity for local people to have their say, especially as the new buildings are taller and will have more impact on the local community. The proposal to adopt this plan to allow immigrants to use Haslar detention centre to hold these people is totally irresponsible. I don’t care what the home office has to say it will. The proposed accomodation blocks in phase 2 of the develop being 3 stories is significantly different to the original proposals as shared with residents at previous consultation information events. They will be higher than the original buildings of the previous IRC and are being built in an area which was not previously developed. The height of the proposed accomodation blocks I feel will be detrimental to residents whose properties are beside and opposite and will dominate the area.

This is outrageous. This will seriously affect the local community with the influx of migrants that will cause nothing but harm to a vibrant community. Groups of male migrants terrifying the locals would, in my opinion likely cause a vigilante response inciting violence across the board. The government could not make a worse decision.
