I wish to formally object to the proposed immigration detention facility in Gosport and express my concerns about both the process and the potential impact this development could have on our community. My primary concern is the lack of transparency surrounding this application. Significant sections of the published documents have been redacted, making it difficult for local residents to fully understand the proposal and its implications. At the same time, the proposed capacity has increased from the original plans. Many people in the community feel that important information has been withheld or changed without adequate explanation or meaningful public consultation. This has seriously damaged public confidence in the process. I am also concerned that decisions which will have a direct impact on the people of Gosport appear to be being made by the Home Office with limited involvement from the local council or the community itself. Local residents are the people who will live alongside this development every day, yet it feels as though our views have been sidelined. The people of Gosport should have a genuine voice in decisions that affect their town, and I believe the council should play a much greater role in representing the interests and concerns of local residents. This development also raises concerns about its impact on the local community and quality of life. If individuals accommodated at the facility are permitted to access the local community, residents deserve clear information about how this will be managed, what security arrangements will be in place, and what assessment has been made of the potential impact on local services and public spaces. The published information does not provide sufficient reassurance on these points. I am also concerned about the additional pressure this development could place on local infrastructure and public services, including policing, healthcare, transport and other community resources. These potential impacts should be fully assessed and explained before any decision is reached. Overall, I believe this proposal has been presented without the level of openness and engagement that a development of this significance requires. I ask that the council seeks greater transparency from the Home Office, carefully considers the effect this proposal could have on local residents and services, and ensures that the concerns of the community are properly represented before any decision is made. I respectfully request that these concerns be given full consideration during the planning process.
