This facility existed for many years and was, I believe, controlled by the military. It was never a worry to us living very close to it. The proposal to extend the facility by such a huge factor is extremely concerning for all Gosport residents. We have not been consulted at any time. Gosport is bounded by the sea, it cannot expand any more. Protect our residents and our proud military heritage by containing this project to it's original capacity.

This proposed development is becoming unsuitable for purpose. Whilst Gosport residents understand the need for an Immigrant Removal Centre, the development is expanding and there are currently no guarantees of local security preventing imminent deportees finding their way onto local streets and also how long this facility will be needed. Again, it appears another clear case of sneaking things through the channels by the government. The planning application is very misleading, again typical government. I am a business owner in Gosport and I honestly do not know anyone that is happy with either the money been spent on the detention centre or housing immigrants on our door step. The buildings will be almost 14m high, overlooking small residential homes, with 600 men and 414 staff all creating noise throughout the night just 60 metres away from homes. The local roads will be swamped with staff cars with shift changeovers in the early hours of the morning 7 days a week. Only 259 parking spaces for 414 staff! As residents we were shown plans for this development, which have altered drastically. The planning decision has now been taken away from a local level and will be dealt with centrally. This is underhand and not acceptable, considering the drastic changes that have been made. The overdevelopment of the immigration centre will have a detrimental effect on the local area and Gosport as a whole. There is not enough provision for staff parking or parking in the local area. It is completely unfair on the direct neighbours of the centre and will affect the house prices in the area. Yet again people are not being properly consulted, plans going ahead without local planning, decisions made by people who do not live in the area or even know the area.

This application should not be allowed for many reasons, it would be potentially be thrusting 800 unknown males into an area full of young children, and from what we have seen this would be putting those children immediately under threat. Also, the area does not have the infrastructure to support this added burden, have there been any plans for extra policing? Or extra monitoring for the area? Firstly why do we need this for immigrants if they are going to be deported? I have lived in gosport for a few good years now and I am not happy with the proposal for the following reasons 1. These detainees should not be housed in a built up area where there are young families and children 2. Gosport is under to much pressure for housing it's own residence and the Haslar upgrade should be headed towards them , not young foreign criminals. 3. As one of many other residents in the area I have been against this decision from the start. We do not want this kind of place in our small town. What now makes it even worse is the fact that we have all been lied to about the amount of people this establishment will now actually hold. Living directly opposite the IRC, the noise levels which will undoubtedly increase during recreational times. Plus, hearing possibly the call to prayer at ungodly hours/ times. No doubt increase of traffic causing disruption its bad enough now with contractors arriving / leaving site let alone the reversing alarms going off constantly throughout the days. Gosport residents have the right to be consulted about the expansion of the Haslar Immigration Detention Centre. How can the government just disregard the view of the Gosport community. The plans have been significantly amended from the public consultation and have increased to three stories rather than two, the information we were provided with is not what the plans are now. How can this be considered acceptable? I, like thousands of other Gosport residents firmly reject any further tax payer funding for this site/building. The whole planning proposals have been pushed through without consultation with residents. Parts of the construction have gone beyond original planning application, which, in itself would be deemed illegal with an enforcement to pull it down. When this original planning application went in GBC argued against the Government regarding the plans and us local residents were PROMISED 300 single young men locked up there for a maximum of 2 weeks and that the buildings would be 2 storey not 3 and no windows facing onto our local houses so the Government decided to change the Law to prevent other L.A’s from objecting to this situation. I am against this proposal. Haslar immigration centre is right in the middle of residential areas and heavily visited areas, too increase the height and population would be very detrimental to the area. I am objecting to this phase 2 build because at no point has the health and wellbeing of local people been taken into consideration during Phase 1 of the build which will continue into phase 2 unless something positive changes.
