I object to the proposed expansion of Haslar Immigration Removal Centre\. While I acknowledge the Government’s responsibilities in relation to immigration, this application raises serious planning concerns that have not been adequately addressed\. My objections are set out below: - **Traffic and highway impact:** The proposal would significantly increase staff, contractor, service and visitor movements, placing further strain on the already congested and constrained road network serving the Haslar peninsula\. With limited access routes and existing peak\-time congestion, additional traffic would worsen delays for residents, public transport and emergency services\. These impacts have not been adequately assessed or mitigated\. - **Cumulative development impact:** The peninsula is already subject to major redevelopment at the Royal Haslar site, which will substantially increase population and traffic levels\. The combined impact of both developments on transport, infrastructure and public services has not been properly assessed\. Planning decisions must consider cumulative effects rather than individual schemes in isolation\. - **Pressure on local infrastructure:** A development of this scale will place additional demand on healthcare, emergency services and wider public infrastructure\. There is insufficient evidence that existing services can accommodate this increased pressure\. - **Scale and character:** The proposed expansion is disproportionate to its surroundings and would materially alter the character of the Haslar area\. Additional buildings, parking and infrastructure would result in an adverse visual and environmental impact\. - **Environmental concerns:** Given the site’s sensitive coastal location, there are unresolved concerns regarding impacts on biodiversity, protected habitats, flood risk and the wider environment\. These matters must be fully addressed before any permission is granted\. - **Loss of public amenity:** Proposed changes affecting the coastal path and surrounding public spaces risk reducing access to important recreational areas used by residents and visitors, and should be given significant weight\. - **Lack of justification:** The scale of the proposed increase in detention capacity has not been adequately justified\. There is insufficient evidence that this is the most appropriate site or that less harmful alternatives have been properly considered\. For these reasons, I respectfully request that planning permission is refused unless these concerns are fully and satisfactorily addressed\. I ask the Planning Inspectorate to give full weight to the cumulative impacts on the local community, transport network, infrastructure, environment and emergency access when determining this application.
