I wish to formally object to the proposed planning application for the Halsey Immigration Centre. I believe this proposal would have a significant and detrimental impact on the local community and should be refused for the following reasons. Firstly, the scale of the development is wholly inappropriate for the area and would place unacceptable pressure on already overstretched local infrastructure. Local GP surgeries, NHS services, schools, public transport and other community facilities are already operating at or near capacity. The application does not provide sufficient evidence that these essential services can accommodate the additional demand without adversely affecting existing residents. Secondly, the proposal would fundamentally alter the character of the local area. Residents have chosen to live in this community because of its existing residential nature, and this development would represent a substantial and permanent change that has not been adequately justified. The application also fails to demonstrate that the likely increase in traffic, parking demand, servicing requirements and associated activity has been properly assessed. These impacts would inevitably affect neighbouring residents through increased congestion, noise and disturbance. There is also considerable concern regarding the cumulative impact on community cohesion. A development of this nature requires extensive engagement with local residents and a robust strategy to ensure integration, support and appropriate safeguarding measures. In my view, the consultation undertaken has been inadequate and has failed to address the legitimate concerns repeatedly raised by the community. Furthermore, the proposal does not convincingly demonstrate that the site is the most appropriate location for such a facility or that reasonable alternative sites have been fully considered. The planning statement appears to place insufficient weight on the long-term impacts on neighbouring residents and local businesses. Planning decisions should balance public need against the adverse effects on existing communities. In this case, I do not believe that balance has been achieved. The application fails to adequately mitigate the impacts on local services, infrastructure, residential amenity and the character of the area. For these reasons, I respectfully request that the planning authority refuses this application
