The whole of the Haslar peninsula is planned for development, Haslar hospital, housing on ex MOD land, the future development of Fort Blickhouse. The IRC upper level extension, will take away the privacy of all the local residents. Already we are seeing a drop in the value of properties surrounding the IRC, with some residents unable to sell, because of the IRC. I strongly object to the expansion of IRC, as I feel if this is allowed, it opens the doors for future development on that site.

I am writing to object to the proposed expansion of Haslar Immigration Removal Centre. The application reference is CROWN/2026/0000005. I object because the proposal would expand Haslar into a 600-bed detention centre, adding up to 470 additional detention places before the refurbished 130-bed centre has even reopened or been tested in practice. I object to the proposed expansion plans for the Haslar IRC. The new/updated plans are not in keeping with the area which is predominantly a quiet residential area of Gosport. Furthermore the scale of the proposed expansion is too large with 3 storey buildings and large recreational areas. The area of the sea wall is used by locals for walking and this will now make this feel unsafe. The parking will be a nightmare down our road and Alverstoke is supposed to be seen a nice, safe place to be which is why we moved here with our daughter and now this is being put on our doorstep.

Yes I would like to attend a meeting. Gosport doesn’t have the infrastructure to cope with this proposal. GP, Dental and hospital will be affected to the detriment of the people of this area. The clientele’s needs will be met before the local population. Water and sewage is already a problem in this area. The expansion of the Haslar Removal Immigration Centre fast tracked by the Home Office causes issues for an already deprived area. I am totally against this planned work as it will drastically affect the area and town by increasing the traffic and crime rate. It is well documented that personnel attacks on the residents is increased and we no longer feel safe in our own homes and town.

I won’t be able to attend the hearing but I feel that as a resident of the area this project has been nothing but a nightmare for us from the beginning. With noisy building works, road closures and irresponsible parking. There has been numerous incidents and accidents due to poor parking this is only going to get worse. We live on a peninsula surrounded by affluent marinas. The local economy is going to the dogs anyway where high street is run down, no decent shops, no transport links I.e. only a bus every 2 hours going 1 way. The area has a number of elderly who are already worrying about their quality of life. Gosport was once a naval town. Now we have blockhouse empty. We are a small town on a peninsula with no railway access ,the housing of these immigrants on the waterfront is totally the wrong place to hold them, I have grave concerns for the local people when any being held there are released , I am totally against this stupid proposal for 600 unknown characters being held in this massively expensive holding centre.

I have lived near the Haslar Immigration Removal Centre since 2002. When the facility operated prior to its closure, it had very little impact on the local community. I am not opposed in principle to the site being brought back into use for immigration purposes, and I recognise the national need for such facilities. However, any future use must be proportionate to the site’s physical constraints, environmental sensitivity, and its extremely close relationship with surrounding residential homes. ... Read more

All those boats crossing the English Channel and the men coming to the UK Then being put in to hotels and holding centres is not the answer, they need to be sent back, other countries seem to manage this. It costing the UK money and from the news, France helps them on the way to the UK and we are paying France to stop this. Gosport use to be a proud naval town. Let’s make Britain great again. No more immigration please.

Whoever thought an IRC hosting 600 individuals could be located in a small enclosed site at the end of peninsula really did not do their homework. No consideration has been given to the associated issues of parking provision for the multitude of staff required to service the facility or access via local roads.
