Dear Planning Inspectorate, I am writing to object to the proposed expansion of Campsfield House Immigration Removal Centre. The application reference is CROWN/2026/0000004. I object because the proposal would more than double the size of Campsfield, from 160 to 400 places, on Green Belt land. I am concerned that the expansion would make the site more built up, harm the openness of the Green Belt, and add pressure to local roads, services and infrastructure. The Home Office has not clea... Dear Planning team I know that this application is coming to the committee on Thursday, however I’ve been unable to find the request for a response from councillors in my inbox. I assume this is because I am not a ward councillor, even though I am a Kidlington East Councillor and my ward will be affected. In any event I attach a response from me and would be grateful if you could include this on the portal. Kind regards Ian Middleton Oxfordshire County Councillor for Kidlington E... Read more

Dear Planning Inspectorate, I am writing to object to the proposed expansion of Campsfield House Immigration Removal Centre. The application reference is CROWN/2026/0000004. The Home Office has not clearly shown why 240 additional detention places are needed at Campsfield, or why existing capacity, alternatives to detention or other estate options would not be sufficient. This is especially important because the proposal would involve permanent development on protected land. I am concer... Read more

In this case we are not offering advice. This should not be interpreted as comment on the merits of the application. It is not necessary to consult us on this application again, unless there are material changes to the proposals.

I actively oppose the expansion of the Campsfield Immigration Removal Centre. Expanding the detention estate is proven not to increase removals. According to a report from Scottish Detainee Visitors, one of the government's key purposes of detention is to remove people from the UK, but in 2024 only 43% of people leaving detention were returned, a fact which has been under 50% since 2015. I believe the expansion will just act to further traumatise people and cost taxpayers money that does not ... Read more
