It is also incredibly expensive to run and to accomodate detainees. According to Home Office statistics there were 651 beds em... Read more

I am writing to object to the proposed expansion of Campsfield House Immigration Removal Centre. The application reference is CROWN/2026/0000004. I object because the proposal would more than double the size of Campsfield, from 160 to 400 places, on Green Belt land. I am concerned that the expansion would make the site more built up, harm the openness of the Green Belt, and add pressure to local roads, services and infrastructure. The Home Office has not clearly shown why 240 additional de... Read more

I would like to attend a hearing in the event that one is scheduled. The environment Kidlington is a rapidly growing town, at the Western End of the government's much publicised growth arc (Oxford to Cambridge) of innovative technology business. It already has several hundred new houses plans and in addition to the existing Tech parks there is another planning application for Oxford TP2 which if (as likely) is granted will mean Campsfield is an out of place building - its planned expansion w... I am writing to object to the proposed expansion of Campsfield House Immigration Removal Centre. The application reference is CROWN/2026/0000004. The Home Office has not clearly shown why 240 additional detention places are needed at Campsfield, or why existing capacity, alternatives to detention or other estate options would not be sufficient. This is especially important because the proposal would involve permanent development on protected land. I am also concerned that key information h... Read more

The proposal to reopen and substantially expand Campsfield House (CH) represents an extraordinary reversal of previous Government policy and disregards the extensive body of evidence demonstrating the ineffectiveness, wastefulness and human cost of the UK's immigration detention system. In his 2016 Review into the Welfare in Detention of Vulnerable Persons and subsequent 2018 Assessment of Government Progress, Sir Stephen Shaw identified significant and persistent failings throughout the immi... I oppose the expansion of Campsfield IRC. The detention and deportation of people who are seeking asylum and refugee affects me. I am a citizen of the country, I have rights and responsibilities. I feel very ashamed that vulnerable frightened people are not treated with kindness and compassion. How can this be happening in what was a civilised country. The horrors of history happened when people did nothing until it was too late.

I am responding to this consultation as a member of the public concerned about green belt protection, accountability, and the use of public money to fund dangerous and unnecessary immigration detention. I object because tripling the floor space and enormously increasing the height/impact of a site on green belt land is clearly inappropriate. In order to justify the use of so-called "grey belt" land, the Home Office must demonstrate there's a clear unmet need, which I do not believe it is the ca... Read more
