I am writing to object to the plans to expand Campsfield Immigration Detention Centre for the following reasons; It has an extremely negative impact on the physical and mental health of those detained who have often experiences severe difficulties and trauma in their country of origin and while fleeing those countries as shown by independent monitoring boards. It is also incredibly expensive to run and to accomodate detainees. According to Home Office statistics there were 651 beds empty in the IRC estate in March 2026, proving the existing facilities. In the same statistics it was that 56% of IRC detainees were wrongly accused and therefore wrongly imprisoned. Local people already oppose the facility and any expansion, due to the negative impacts such as increased traffic and appearance. For these reasons, further inquiry needs to be made (as allowed for by the CDO legislation) and the government needs to make a clear plan based on evidence to justify the expansion. Yours Faithfully,
