Dear Planning Inspectorate, I am writing to object to the proposed expansion of Campsfield House Immigration Removal Centre (application reference CROWN/2026/0000004). The proposal would more than double the size of Campsfield, from 160 to 400 places. I am concerned that this expansion would severely hamper the openness of the Green Belt and add pressure to local roads, services, and infrastructure. The Home Office has not convincingly shown why the additional detention places are necessary or why alternatives to detention would not cut it. The lack of clear justification is concerning as the proposal involves permanent development on protected land. I am also concerned that key information has been withheld or redacted, including details of the layout, transport, lighting, landscaping and how the site would operate. This makes it difficult for us to understand the full impact of the proposal. Moreover, immigration detention causes serious harm to the people detained, their families, as well as local residents. For these reasons, I ask that the proposal is rejected. If not, I ask that it be examined in a full public inquiry.
