The harms caused by immigration detention on the mental and physical health of detainees and their families, as well as their access to adequate legal representation, are well documented by groups including Amnesty International and Bail for Immigration Detainees. For these reasons, the UK should be aiming to end all detention of immigrants, not increase it. Furthermore, the proposed expansion of Campsfield would require building on Green Belt land. This would have negative impacts on local traffic, increase urban sprawl and put more pressure on local wildlife. Campsfield along with other immigration detention centres should be closed down, not expanded.
