Dear Planning Inspectorate, I am writing to object to the proposed expansion of Campsfield House Immigration Removal Centre. The application reference is CROWN/2026/0000004. I'm strongly opposed to this proposal because the majority of refugees and migrants are ordinary people seeking safety and security, and detention is therefore a completely inappropriate response to their needs. People seeking sanctuary should be treated with respect and dignity, instead, countless studies show that incarceration only further traumatises those concerned. We do not forget all those who have died in immigration detention, with many of these taking their own lives as a consequence of the brutal system and fears of forced return to war or persecution. Expanding immigration prisons is part of an ongoing right-wing agenda which serves to distract the public and scapegoat the vulnerable for the failures of successive governments. It is not a real solution to society's problems. For these reasons, I ask that the application is refused.
