I would like to register my objection to the expansion of Haslar Immigration Removal Centre. My reasons are as follows There is significant uncertainty regarding the impacts upon the locality due to the heavily redacted nature of the documents and drawings provided. This means that we cannot fathom and properly ascertain the impacts upon the surrounding area particularly the properties that neighbour the site at very close proximity. Additionally there is no other IRC in the UK that is situated in a residential area such as this with homes so close to the perimeter fence line and therefore directly and significantly negatively impacted on a daily basis. They will inevitably suffer from constant issues from noise, traffic, safety concerns, over-looking and lack of privacy, air pollution, light spill and light pollution, parking issues and heavy goods vehicles, issues caused by protesting and protestors, emergency alarms and emergency vehicles etc. all of these will significantly negatively impact upon their way of life and their well-being. Any claims that this is not the case are clearly false claims as these issues are currently being suffered during the constriction phase of phase 1 redevelopment and will become significantly worse during the construction and operation of phase 2 expansion. Other IRC sites report significant disturbances particularly at night from large numbers of police vehicles, tactical units and fire engines, the impact of such occurrences in Gosport are huge as this area is wholly residential, unlike the other IRC sites, which are rural or industrial, NOT residential. There are other existing IRC sites that would be better able to cope with expanision due to being in rural or industrial areas. This site, being located in a residential community, is entirely unsuitable for expansion. This should be decided at a local level, it is wholly inappropriate to decide upon such a development at a government level, by people who have never even visited the area, with no consideration for the effects on the local people. This application should be subject to much greater scrutiny and consultation. Local people are being required to accept the consequences of such a major development, suffering loss in house prices and houses being unsellable, loss of all quality of life, loss of privacy, loss of the ability to be able to sleep at night, unable to feel safe in their own homes and community, additional pressure on services such as health and transport, roads and parking. All while having no power to influence the outcome. Thank you for careful consideration of the points I have raised, please know that these are real, lived experiences and are to be taken seriously and with compassion.
