I am unable to attend any hearing that may be scheduled but I wish to object to the proposed expansion of Haslar Immigration Removal Centre. My objection is based on the cumulative impact the development could have on the local community, infrastructure, environment, and the long-term future of Gosport. Firstly, I am concerned about the additional pressure this development could place on local roads, transport networks, emergency services, and other public infrastructure. Any increase in staff, contractors, service vehicles, and visitors has the potential to increase traffic and congestion in an area that already experiences transport challenges. I am also concerned about the impact on the character of the Haslar area. The site is located close to historic buildings, residential communities, and important coastal environments. Any expansion should carefully consider the effect on local heritage, visual appearance, biodiversity, lighting, noise, and the overall amenity of nearby residents. The proposal should also fully assess any environmental impacts, including increased energy use, waste management, drainage, flood risk, and the protection of local wildlife and coastal habitats. Given the sensitivity of the surrounding area, these issues deserve thorough consideration. Beyond the planning considerations, I believe this proposal represents a missed opportunity for Gosport. Significant public investment is being directed towards expanding a detention facility when many residents have long called for greater investment in projects that would directly benefit the local community. Gosport would benefit far more from investment in town centre regeneration, NHS and healthcare services, schools, skills and employment opportunities, affordable housing, improved public transport, community facilities, parks, and support for local businesses. These types of investment would strengthen the local economy, improve quality of life, and create lasting benefits for residents. While I recognise that decisions regarding immigration policy are matters for central government, I do not believe that expanding the Haslar Immigration Removal Centre represents the best long-term use of this site or the best use of public resources when compared with investment that could directly improve the wellbeing and prosperity of Gosport. For these reasons, I respectfully ask that the proposal is refused or, at the very least, subjected to the most rigorous scrutiny to ensure that all environmental, infrastructure, heritage, and community impacts have been fully assessed before any decision is made. Thank you for considering my representation
