The hole idea of putting a I.R.C.in such a congested area is beyond me before we start getting into the way it will effect the local area and the residents. The three storey buildings that are planned and were not on the original application are completely out of contextual harmony. The height of these buildings mean that the local residents who live straight across the road will have people who are locked up looking straight into their homes. ( somebody in London who has to decide this application probably doesn’t even know this. Has any thought gone into Well Being of the residents, their mental health, getting woken up during the night with the coming and going of detainees, wardens, legal teams, the list goes on. It’s a very narrow road going into the main entrance so there will be congestion. Next to the I.R.C is the Royal Hospital Haslar which as well as being converted into residential living that fits into the historic character it will also comprise of assisted living for veterans. Who will want to live there with 600 detainees living next door. Also we have Fort Blockhouse which the MOD is putting up for sale talk of hotels there, I think not. The hole area is steeped in history people are trying to get young families to live and work here, this is having the opposite reaction, if people could sell their homes. Gosport is on a peninsular and can be awful to get in and out at times, all these extra large prison vans on narrow roads with all the other houses being built in the area are not going to help. Something to think about a lot of these old establishments had tunnels built for one reason or another and there locations get lost through time somebody’s head will role if the detainees find one and we have a Great Escape situation.
