I find this proposal very concerning for our community, we have a lot of people struggling with lack of housing and jobs, it is sickening to see millions spent on a immigration holding centre, a beautiful listed building with sea views .....used for criminals who have entered our country illegally. How do you think that looks to people who live here and work hard??? This site could have been used for so many useful and positive things, social housing,the elderly, more doctors and dental practices etc for the community. Instead such facilities are being created for individuals that should not be in our country. Apparently 600 men and 450 staff! What type of ratio is this.....what about all the elderly in care homes, kids at school, normal people wanting to see doctors and dentist, we don't get this first class treatment! Yet you're prepared to offer this type of first class service to people who are not British citizens and have not contributed to our country financially or as part of a community. I find this disgusting and this is and will continue to cause so much unrest and send out such a negative message. This centre is really proving to local people that their needs are secondary in the governments eyes and that the government really don't care! This lack of support and growth for families, young adults and people who genuinely are struggling in and around our area come secondary to criminals awaiting deportation. How can this be right? This is an area with historic connections to the Navy, many families have family who have fought for this country to keep it safe! People have settled here and worked hard to own homes....I feel so sorry for people living down Fort Road, they house prices have already dropped and nobody wants to buy them now. This is the impact many are facing, also the infrastructure of this are is not set up for this type of operation. We don't even have a police station or a local hospital. I absolutely object to this proposal.
